Feedback on our final opening sequence

My group and I decided to get final feedback on out thriller opening sequence, so that we were able to see what went well and what could've been improved. By collecting this we could see what we would change and improve next time, but also what we did very well that our target audience really liked. To collect our feedback, we sent our video to our target audience via WhatsApp, we then asked them to write about what their thoughts on our film were. As well as this, our group also went around filming members of our target audience and asking them personally on their thoughts on our film. Below is the result of all our fee

From these videos and messages of feedback from our peers and target audience, we have considered the positive and negative comments about our final thriller opening sequence. We were told that our final opening sequence featured good and suspenseful music that our target audience found to be thrilling and exciting, as well as this we were told that they enjoyed the part of the sequence when the screen went black and all you heard was a scream as this added to the tension of the film. However, we were told from our target audience that they would have liked to have seen the kidnapper shove the victim in the car as they feel that this would help convey a thriller even more, and it was also add to the mystery of the film. As well as this, our target audience commented on how in a particular scene, the camera was quiet unsteady, however this could not be helped and we tried to edit this to make sure it looked the best it could. These pieces of feedback were very useful as it helped us understand what we could improve on next time.

Evaluation task 5 - How have I attracted/addressed my target audience?

How does our film appeal to our target audience through the use of mise-en-scene and generic conventions that make our film similar to other films:

Evaluation task 4 - Who would be the target audience for my film?

Facebook profile of an ideal audience member:

The picture above is a screenshot of a Facebook profile that i created, this would be the ideal audience for my opening sequence due to her interests and age. This profile is representing a  stereotypical teenage girl with interests in thriller films. This visual helps me get to grips with what my target audience should really be like in order for my film to succeed.

Evaluation task 3 - Who would distribute my thriller?

Evaluation task 2 - How I represented social groups in my media products

Evaluation task 1 - How have I used, matched or subverted conventions in my opening sequence?

Creating our logo and title

As a group we used the program After Effects to create several title sequences as options that we could use in our final opening sequence.

There were several titles that we needed to create for our opening sequence:
- Title of the film
- Production companies associated with the film
- Credits

Title of the film

For the title sequence above, we used  After Effects to add a red background and a title over the top. We decided to use a red background because we felt that it best suited the nature of our film. We also added an animation effect to add movement to the title sequence. We did this because we felt that it would make it more effective and more eye catching.

The title sequence above was also created on After Effects. We created it by adding more complex elements than the one above such as the knife used in our film poster. We added an effect to the knife which meant that it would gradually drop down and then go back up again, following the reveal of the film title. We made the title of the film in bold red letters and added an effect to this as well which meant that it would gradually reveal each letter in a dissolve effect. The title sequence above was also created on After Effects. The title sequence on the left is another title that we created to use in our opening sequence. To make this we downloaded a royalty free video of blood dripping from YouTube. We then imported this video into our opening sequence in Premier Pro and added our title 'The Captive' over it.

Production companies associated with the film

The image below is the image that we created for the title sequences in our opening sequence. We decided that we wanted to aim to create a simple yet eye catching logo that would look professional as well as effective. After going through several different ideas we decided that we wanted to create the image of a bubble, as this was fun and simple. We created the image using Microsoft Word by simply adding in a bubble shape and adding colour effects to it to make it slightly transparent like a bubble. We also added smaller bubbles to add to make it look more realistic. After this we added the title of the production company's name. We decided to make the company name 'Bubbl productions', simply because we felt it was effective yet simple and matched the image we were using. To finish off this logo, we imported the finished image into After Effects and added a bubble effect to make the image move. To further improve this we decided to add the sound of a bubble popping into the sequence. We got this sound effect from YouTube and we made sure that it was royalty free before we used it in our opening sequence.

The video above shows a logo for a production company that we made to consider as an option to be used in our opening sequence. For the writing in this we chose to use the initials of all of our names as we felt it was significant and a way of making the production company more personal. The writing was then placed on a black background and then we added colour to make it look more exciting. We then added this image into After Effects and animated it by adding a dissolve effect to it. We added this effect because we wanted it to look simple yet exciting and eye catching. We decided that this effect met these qualities. This is shown in the video on the right.

The video above is of a title sequence for a production company that we created as an option to be used in our opening sequence. We decided to name the production company 'Bubbl productions', simply because we felt that it was fun, simple and professional as it is not directly related to our film. We made this by finding a royalty free video of bubbles and then added a sound effect to make it more realistic. We did this in Premier Pro as this was the program that we were using to edit our opening sequence. We then added writing over the top of the bubbles in white bold text.

Above is a video which shows one option for a production company logo that we created to use in our opening sequence of our film. We chose to name the production company using the initials of all our names., 'TEAO productions'. We used a program called After Effects to make this title and then add a typewriter effect to it. We then added the typewriter sound effect to it to make the effect stand our even more.

Poster influences

All of these images are of posters that promote films/TV programs that i researched and used as inspiration when creating my own poster. I researched films that had a similar plot and genre to mine as i felt that it would give me an insight into what a good, effective poster looks like. I looked at 'Silence of the lambs', 'Scream', 'know knock' and the TV program 'Scream queens'.

From these posters i was able to identify the specific elements that i would need to have on my poster, as well as being able to create a poster that will appeal to my target audience. It was useful to look at the posters because i chose film posters which had similar plots to our film and therefore are likely to be targeted at the same target audience as mine. This means that i could see what was needed in order to produce an eye catching, effective poster that will appeal to my specific target audience.
