Lyrics for our chosen song- Green Light

I do my make-up in somebody else's car
We order different drinks at the same bars
I know about what you did and I wanna scream the truth
She thinks you love the beach, you're such a damn liar

Those great whites, they have big teeth
Hope they bite you
Thought you said that you would always be in love
But you're not in love, no more
Did it frighten you
How we kissed when we danced on the light up floor?
On the light up floor

But I hear sounds in my mind
Brand new sounds in my mind
But, honey, I'll be seein' you 'ever I go
But, honey, I'll be seein' you down every road
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it

'Cause, honey, I'll come get my things, but I can't let go
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it
Oh, I wish I could get my things and just let go
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it

Sometimes I wake up in a different bedroom
I whisper things, the city sings them back to you

All those rumors, they have big teeth
Hope they bite you
Thought you said that you would always be in love
But you're not in love, no more
Did it frighten you
How we kissed when we danced on the light up floor?
On the light up floor

But I hear sounds in my mind
Brand new sounds in my mind
But, honey, I'll be seein' you 'ever I go
But, honey, I'll be seein' you down every road
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it

'Cause, honey, I'll come get my things, but I can't let go
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it
Oh, honey, I'll come get my things, but I can't let go
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it

Yeah, honey, I'll come get my things, but I can't let go
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it
Oh, I wish I could get my things and just let go
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it

I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it
I'm waiting for it, that green light, I want it

Our chosen song

After listening to all of these songs, we collectively decided on using Lorde's song 'Green Light'.  We have decided to use this song as we all believe that this song is the best option due to its good beat, lyrics and joyful tone. We also thought that it met the certain criteria that a song for our final music video would have to meet. This song is also very popular and very liked amongst our target audience, and it suits our artist the most.

Laura Mulvey- The Male Gaze

-->Laura Mulvey 's theory is about the male gaze, in which she states that audiences are forced to view media texts from the perspective of a heterosexual male, regardless of their own gender and sexual orientation. The male gaze is based on sexual desire and the way that women look. Mulevy states that the male gaze is always active while the female gaze is passive.
--> There are three levels of the male gaze theory: male characters watch the female characters, the camera follows the male character watching the female one and that the audience see the female character from the POV of the mae through the camera.
--> The use of camera is important in this theory as Mulvey suggests that the camera lingers on the curves of the female body in order to sexualise the woman. This also contributes to the objectification of women, viewing them as objects rather than people, something else that Laura Mulvey picks up on in this theory. This is exhibited through the use of camera control. Certain movements of the camera also help to percieve the woman in an idealistic way.
--> Mulvey also mentions that events which occur to women are presented as bigger than how a man sees these events. Another thing that is mentioned is that the narrative and mise-en-scene are equally as male orientated as the actual presentation of the female.
--> Mulvey mentions visual pleasure as part of this theory in which she states that the female in the narrative has two functions, one is to be an erotic object for characters within the narrative and the other is to be an erotic object for the audience to view.

-The camera is used to represent a male audience and therefore encourages objectification of women this includes close-ups of body parts, tracking shots, slow motion, zooming in and tilting up
-The audience is encouraged to identify with the male characters and how they treat women
-Mulvey argued that the male gaze reinforced gender differences in society
-Laura Mulvey highlights that The Male Gaze does three things:

1) How men look at women
2) How women look at themselves
3) How women look at other women

Trumpets- Jason Derulo

A very good example of the male gaze in the music video for 'Trumpets'.
In this video the director has filmed shots of women to present this male gaze. In most of the scenes the women are wearing very little clothing to enhance this gaze.
It can be seen that the director has objectified the women in the video by using shots such as her standing by a poll or holding a wine glass.

Using an illustration programme

As practise for creating our own our CD cover, we had the task of recreating a 'Green Day' album cover. We used a program called Corel Draw, where we followed a step by step tutorial on how to make our own. The image below on the left is the album cover that we had to replicate, and the image on the right are the tools that we used and traced to create the album.

We had to use the tools above and used the Corel Draw program to trace the objects, by using the stencil and pen tools. This gave us the basic shapes that we needed in order to recreate the album cover. Once we had created the main feature of the hand, we then added in the colours and the background which were more straight-forward to add, then we found the most similar font and added the finishing touches to our album. The two images below are photos i took as i made progress throughout the making of the album cover.

Clean Bandit ft. Louisa Johnson- 'Tears' analysis

This music video was Louisa Johnson's first original single. This video creates her image as a debut solo artist due to it being her first single, she is shown to be quite cool and edgy due to the way the video was shot and edited. As well as this, Louisa was lip syncing which presents her as a performer and pop star. Also, the choreographed dance routine helps create her image as a pop star

The genre of music can be related to the visuals. The bright pops of colour and the slick shots of paint bursting and water drops matches the pop genre.

This music video has a narrative about break-up's and how to be powerful, which represented through the constant use of fire being held and on the instruments. This narrative is also presented through the lyrics and the name of the song 'Tears'. The lyrics tell a story of a bad break up, and the lyrics correlate to what we see on screen.

Overall, the music video for 'Tears' reflects the pop genre and the narrative of the video. The video cuts to the beat an uses a variety of different editing and camera techniques. I really enjoyed the parts of the powder paint exploding and the fire and water that we saw, which came alongside close ups of Louisa Johnson singing or wide shots of her with the band Clean Banditt.
